Payal Marathe is a senior associate at Close Concerns, a San Francisco-based healthcare information company focused on diabetes and obesity. The Close Concerns team, led by president and founder Kelly Close, publishes Closer Look, a newsletter covering the latest news and insights related to these two chronic conditions. Payal leads coverage of diabetes and obesity therapy, also writing and editing pieces about prevention and public health policy. She and her colleagues attend approximately 50 scientific meetings a year where these issues are debated and discussed.

She also volunteers for The diaTribe Foundation, a non-profit established in 2013 to improve the lives of people with diabetes and prediabetes and to advocate for action. This includes writing pieces for diaTribe.org, an online publication dedicated to empowering people with diabetes and prediabetes to live happier, healthier, and more hopeful lives.

Prior to joining Close Concerns, Payal studied neuroscience and psychology at Yale University. She hopes to pursue a career in public health and healthcare management, helping curtail the diabetes and obesity epidemics with an emphasis on prevention.
