Barry M. Straube, M.D., is a national healthcare policy, quality, clinical/academic expert serving as a consultant, healthcare governance board member, and scientific advisory/payment advisory board for diverse healthcare organizations internationally. Dr. Straube was a Director & Senior Advisor from 2011 to 2016 at the Marwood Group, a NYC-based healthcare advisory and research firm providing insight into how federal law, regulations and policy affect the healthcare investment space.  Prior to joining the Marwood Group in 2011, he was Chief Medical Officer for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as well as the Director of the CMS Office of Clinical Standards & Quality (OCSQ), serving CMS for 11 years. Reporting directly to the CMS Administrator, he was involved with all aspects of the CMS mission, serving as the most senior clinical and physician executive leader at CMS, interacting with senior leadership at the Department of HHS and the White House, testifying and communicating with Congress, and representing CMS to the press, healthcare organizations and the general public, and academic medicine.  He has extensive physician executive and clinical leadership experience in the physician-hospital, managed care, technology & innovation, and federal/state healthcare sectors, including five years in a leadership role (Vice President of Quality Improvement and Senior Medical Director) at Health Net, a managed care organization based in Los Angeles. He is a board-certified nephrologist and internist having many years of clinical/academic work as Chief of the Division of Nephrology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He also serves on multiple healthcare company governance and scientific advisory boards, and is an author of healthcare policy articles in peer-reviewed and other journals.
